Lauren H. Landis, age 91, passed away August 16, 2015.
Born in Akron, Lauren grew up in the area and also spent a lot of time on his grandparents’ farm in Lodi. He attended Akron Public Schools. Lauren was a gifted cartoonist and was published locally, nationally and also in the Army’s newspaper. He enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corp. where he helped build Sand Run Parkway. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after 45 years. Lauren treasured his family and adored his motorcycle. He took great pride in his home and loved working around the house.
Survived by his wife of nearly 68 years of marriage, Marian; children, Lorain (Ray) Oritz, Larry (Linda Kelley), Garry (Danielle Stachowiak Kildea) and Becky (Joel) Barrett; grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert), Mary Beth (Jason), Amy (Jon), Laura (Aaron), Julie (Amy), Garry (Miranda) and Danny; great grandchildren, Cyrus, Luna, Jacob, Taylor, Vincent, Natalie and one on the way; sister, Daisy Belle Parker; numerous nieces and nephews.
A committal service will be held Friday, September 11th, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman where military honors will be conducted. Family and friends are welcome to attend; the procession will originate at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, Friday, at 12:30 p.m. All are invited to a meal following the service at the cemetery.
