Larry A. Evans – 1943-2015 June 21, 2015 Larry left this life the way he wanted - quick and no suffering.
Preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Burr and Allen J. Evans; mother-in-law, Belva Ellen Livingston Breth Adkins, whom he helped take care of ten years along with his wife, Karen and father-law. Also preceded in death by sister-in-law, JuDee Breth Gohn; and brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Gohn.
Please let me tell you about Larry…. He worked at RCA Rubber for 32 years, leaving there in 2003 with a disability of Psoriatic Arthritis. Larry was always looking to help others..giving back to others was just the way Larry was. He was known as “The Cookie Guy” at Springfield Twp. Fire, Police, and Twp. Offices, going there once a month to give them cookies. He religiously went to the Springfield Twp. meetings to keep up with things in the township. Months ago Larry and I took 30 dozen eggs and 10 cans of coffee to Salvation Army for the needy. He would call his nieces to let them know if bad weather was in their area so they could stay safe (again, always thinking of others) and would tease them about him being the first to mow the lawn before they would. He was so very proud when Judith & Beth were born that he named himself UNK SLICK, because he was so excited to be an Uncle.
Larry loved and enjoyed teasing our neighbors, Don & Laura Adams, and their two kids, Ashley and Donnie, with just about anything he could think of..always keeping a watchful eye on the kids and frankly he was kind of known as the watchful eye of the neighborhood. His garage for many years was his home away from home. Tinkering, cleaning up, and just going out to putter around. Loved going to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes with his buddies, Jerry Anthony, Larry Weppler and Ralph Speck for over twenty some years. Now they are all together, probably talking about engines, carburetors, etc.
Larry was very proud to serve in the Army; many of his buddies were sent to Vietnam, but Larry went to South Korea. He was very patriotic throughout his life. When people would sing the National Anthem and “mess it up” with their own rendition and not the way it should have been sung, he would get frustrated.
Missing, and always loving Larry is Karen Breth Evans, his wife of 44 years; and his father-in-law, Cecil Adkins, whom he helped over the years in taking care of Belva Adkins. His nieces, Beth Brink and Judith Hicks, their husbands, Rick Brink and Bryan Hicks will miss him greatly. The Big Love of his life is great niece, Allyson Duvall, whom he loved to do homework with, take her to Acme to meet the ladies, and taught her how to ride her bike this year. You could see such a glow about him to be able to be with her and wanting to be able to teach her anything he could; it was like being the Grandpa he would have liked to have been. Larry will be unbelievably missed by good friend, John P. Stephens, whom he has known for 50 years, having been breakfast buddies at Molly Brown’s for eons on Sunday mornings. He leaves our friends, Lori Hayes, who he enjoyed razzing and would tell her stories that were not true just to get her goat, Harold and Charlotte Hinkle, Teddy and Bob Reighard, Cindy Weppler, Debbie Speck, Fay Anthony Clair, sunbirds, Dave and Linda Zakikian. Larry also leaves cousins to mourn his loss.
