Kenneth E. “Jim” Evans, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 20, 2018.
He was born in Akron to Gilbert and Thelma Evans and lived in Green most of his life, in a house he built. Jim graduated from Springfield High School in 1947. He worked at Mohawk Rubber for 30 years and then became an independent truck driver. Jim loved golfing, bowling, boating, enjoyed playing softball and was an umpire for many years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mable; son, Stanley; brother, Jack; and sister, Wanda. Jim is survived by his sons, Kenneth (Gay) and Edwin (Linda); daughters, Beverly Baker, Rayola (Robert) Gorey and Deborah (Robert) Franjesh; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Phyllis); sisters, Doris (Lewis) Baker, Margaret “Joanne” Smith and Sharlene Baker; cousin and special friend, Kathryn “Sis” Ball.
Funeral service will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, with Rev. Richard W. Ferris officiating. Family and friends will be received Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Friday, one hour prior to the service, from 12 to 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
