Our loving mother went to her final resting place with the Lord after a lengthy illness at the age of 77 on March 26, surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born in Akron to parents, Delmar and Esther Vanhook. Karen was a fun loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was always first and foremost in her life. She was a floral designer for many years and loved her flowers and various crafts. Karen enjoyed traveling and going to gospel concerts. She was happiest when she was cooking for her family.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Dale; brothers, Delmar, Robert and Coy Vanhook. She leaves her children, Phyllis Sizemore and sons, Dennis (JoAnn) and Harold (Tina); grandchildren, Nicholas (Anne) Sizemore, Jennifer (Joe) Yanke and Stephen Sizemore; and very special niece, Pamela Vanhook; her adopted sisters, Mary Ann Oliver, Arlene Ciolli and Geraldine Barron. Karen will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Eastwood Church of the Brethren, 581 Darrow Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305, with Pastor Paul Bozman officiating. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will conclude at the church. Cremation will take place. Private interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park.
