Karen Sue Cox, 54, passed away September 18, 2016 surrounded by family at her home following an eight year journey with breast cancer.
She was born in Akron and lived in Uniontown. Karen believed in the values and rewards of hard work and was an incredibly loving, giving and devoted mother to her three sons. Upon learning of her breast cancer diagnosis, Karen never gave up. She maintained a brave, determined and optimistic outlook even despite numerous surgeries, countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, emergency room visits and pain. She was determined to raise her three boys and continue to be involved in their lives as best she could, including caring for their daily needs, and sometimes dramas, as they ventured into young adulthood. Karen was often referred to as “feisty”, made friends easily and enjoyed her work and colleagues at Rubber City Radio Group where she was a top-producing Account Executive for over 16 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy E. Cox, and will be lovingly missed by sons, Joseph Kovacs, Nicholas Kovacs, and Jayme Kovacs; mother, Mildred Joyce Cox; brother, David Cox (Tammie) of Largo, Florida; sister, Linda Cox Williams (Frederick) of Cuyahoga Falls; nephew, Scott Williams; and many fond cousins, aunts and uncles. She also leaves the father of her sons and friend, Stephen Kovacs.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 30 at 12:00 pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street, NW, Uniontown. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be at East Liberty Cemetery. A luncheon will take place immediately following. Memorials may be made to Summa Health Hospice/Palliative Care, 1077 Gorge Blvd., Akron, OH 44310.
