Karel R. Sovak, 92, passed away on February 15, 2023.
He was born on March 17, 1930 to the parents of Thomas and Mary Sovak and lived in Akron, OH. He graduated from East High School and became a junior apprentice for Goodyear. He joined the USAF during the Korean Conflict and returned to Akron and Goodyear, becoming a journeyman machinist. He was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Karel really enjoyed his old cars and working on old tube radios, as well as “picking” at Thrift Stores and Flea Markets (but not selling). He loved his polka music and socializing around Hartville.
Karel was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 35 years, Mammie and his second wife of 33 years, Ruth, as
well as his brother Thomas E and granddaughter Andrea Hamer. He is survived by his children, Michael, Karel S. (Teri), Karen (Pete) Madrid, step-daughter Sheila (Ed) Collver, his brother George, along with 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will take place at Hopkins-Lawver Funeral Home (Ellet) on Tuesday, February 21st from 5 to 7 pm, with the funeral service taking place on Wednesday, February 22nd at 1 pm at Hopkins-Lawver (Ellet). Interment will follow immediately after the service at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron. Memorials can be sent to the VFW Post 9904 in North Canton.
