June King Marsh

April 11, 1916 — February 5, 2013

June King Marsh June King Marsh passed away quietly on February 5, 2013, at Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tallmadge, Ohio.

June was born on April 11, 1916 in Akron, Ohio. Her family moved to Tallmadge while she was still a small child. June graduated from Tallmadge High School, and she remained an active member of the Alumni Association all her life. She was baptized and married in the Methodist Episcopal Church, which for many years stood at the intersection of South Avenue and Tallmadge Circle. Although she lived the majority of her life in Akron, she always considered Tallmadge her home town.

June received her undergraduate degree from Kent State University and her Master’s degree from the University of Akron. She taught at Springfield High School in the forties and again in the sixties. She loved teaching and she loved her students. June was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a volunteer at Stan Hywet Hall and conducted hundreds of tours through the Manor House. She was a member of several organizations dealing with education, a former member of College Club, a member of Sunshine Club and the Akron Women’s City Club. June was a great correspondent. She exchanged cards and letters with many friends, always remembered children and shut-ins and sent over 300 Christmas cards each year.

Preceded in death by her husband, Paul Marsh, and her son Fred Marsh, she is survived by her daughter, Winnie (Gary) McDermott of Oakton, VA. Her grandchildren were the light of her life: Katy and Andrew Marsh, and Corlyn and Mitchell McDermott. Other survivors include her brother, Ellis (Hilda) King of DeKalb, IL and nieces Lynne Roberts of Sycamore, IL and Diana Mixon of Emmett, ID.
