Judith Marie Hynes, born on September 28, 1940, went home to live in glory with her Lord and Savior on August 1, 2018. She died after bravely and joyfully facing a long illness.
Judy graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1968. She obtained her Master of Science in 1974 and achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in elementary education from the University of Akron in 1994. Her professional career was fueled by a passion for children. She was a kindergarten teacher, principal, curriculum director and consultant. Above all, she was a child advocate in each and every role.
Judy is known most for her smile, kindness, willingness to listen, and generosity beyond belief. She never lost sight of what delighted her; the magic of Christmas, the birth of a new baby, and spending time with her big, expansive extended family. She loved her Ellet High School class and a highlight of her life was attending her 65th Class Reunion in May of this year. She was loved deeply by her family and friends and her impact in our lives will live forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian (Tidrick) and Bacil Hinkle; beloved husband of 23 years, John (Jack) Hynes; and granddaughter, Jill Appleman. Judy is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ron) Marzlin; and son, David Petty; stepdaughters, Jackie (Paul) Paumier, Janet (Daniel) Waller, Linda (Jesse) Cross, Debbie Appleman, Gail (John) Miller, and Cathy (Jack) Halkides; brothers, Terry (Tonia) Hinkle, Ken (Vickie) Hinkle and David Hinkle; and her aunt and best friend, Barb Clemons. Judy was a wife, mother, friend, educator and professional, but the title she enjoyed most was grandma. She leaves her grandchildren, Nathan (Jordan) Marzlin, Christopher (Roxy) Petty, Sarah Petty, Holly (Nick) Haigh, Katie Petty, Jake Petty, Daniel Waller Jr., Kelly (Darrell) Moser, Jenny (Chris) Brown, Matt (Alexis) Johnston, Joe Johnston, Kristy (Michael) Elliott, Michelle (Steve) Newman, Lindsey (Vincent) Campisi, Carly (Sam) Hart, Mitchell (Carly) Appleman, Mehgin Miller, Heather Miller, Garret Halkides, Christian Halkides and Leah Halkides. She was also blessed with 25 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a Graveside Burial Service at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312; and to a Celebration of Life Gathering of food, flowers, music and memories at Bricco Prime, 4315 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018.
