Mom, Joyce “John”, Grama, JC, “Boss” age 96 died on November 4, 2022. Born in Stockton, NY to the late Andrew and Leapha Snell, she lived in Mogadore, OH all her life.
Joyce graduated from Mogadore High School in 1944 and went on to Kent State University for dietary studies. She worked at Broderick Insurance during her family rearing years.
She married her husband of 71 years, Dan G. Calderwood, on November 19, 1949. They retired in 1990, where they began full time adventures, blessed with countless perfectly ordinary days together. Joyce enjoyed fellowship and creativity as an active member of “Red-Work” Group and Portage Patchers. She was artistic in many ways and a collector of many treasures. Joyce also loved to attend the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn. – she cherished the stories, the tellers and the fellowship of many that gather there.
Joyce began attending Mogadore United Methodist Church when she was twelve years old. She remained active up to the pandemic in WSCS, UMW, and United Women of Faith, with a lifelong service mission to help women and children. Joyce served as both District and Local Officer of UMW with over 60 years of service. She was also a dynamic member of the Church Kitchen Crew, providing decades of leadership. Joyce was a proud member of Miriam Circle and Naomi Circle. She mentored many and gave countless inspiring talks regarding random acts of kindness and the impact of giving like Christ.
Joyce was a loving mom and grandmother who cherished the close relationship with her grandchildren. She was happiest serving a banquet to her own family, blessed in the shelter of home.
