Joseph Samuel Subity

Joseph Samuel Subity (Joe), 38, of New Franklin, Ohio, walked triumphantly through the gates of heaven on the morning of April 27, 2013, after a valiant nearly three year battle with cancer. Through it all his faith never faltered; he touched so many lives and inspired us all with his courage, strength, and grace.

Joe lived in Green most of his life graduating from Green High School in 1993. He graduated from Malone College in 2000 with a degree in elementary and special education. For the past twelve years he has worked as a resident assistant in several Hattie Larlham supported living group homes. Joe was a big man with an even bigger heart, especially for those with disabilities. He truly loved the people in his care and did all he could to enrich their lives and show them just how special and treasured they were to him and in the eyes of God.

Preceded in death by grandparents, Sam and Helen Subity and Dorothy Collett; Joe is survived by his parents, Sam and Kathy Subity of Green; brothers, Sam (Rebecca) Subity of San Jose, California and Jon (Carrie) Subity of Millville, Delaware; dearly loved nephews and niece, Caleb, Greyson, and Abigail Subity; grandfather, John Collett; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Joe’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all the people who loved and supported Joe and us throughout his challenging journey – our dear family and friends, the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff of Akron City Hospital, The Cooper Cancer Center, Summa Home Infusion, Summa Palliative Care and Hospice, The Chapel Caring Ministry Services, and Stewart’s Caring Place.

A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, North Canton, OH 44720 with Reverend Keith McLaughlin officiating. Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. Thursday until service time. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the service in fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hattie Larlham, 9772 Diagonal Road, Mantua, OH 44255.

Rest in peace our precious Joe. You kept assuring us, “I’ll be okay,” and now, at last, you are. You will be in our hearts until we meet again.
