Joseph H. "Harold" Smith

Joseph H. “Harold” Smith, 94, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2015 after a brief illness. 

Born on February 28, 1921 in Yorkshire, England, Harold later moved to Akron in 1946. He was proud of his English heritage and of becoming an American Citizen in 1958. Harold belonged to the Teamsters and in 1986 retired from the Central News Co. after 30 years of service. After retirement, Harold enjoyed walking every day at Chapel Hill Mall. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty; sons, William H. and Michael J. (Susan); grandsons, Robert and Taylor; niece, Judith Shiplett; and other relatives and friends. 

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, where funeral service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., with Rev. Richard Ferris officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
