Joseph "Mogadore Joe" Tonsic

Joe passed away, at the age of 97, on January 11, 2015. He was able to live at home until just five days before he died peacefully with his family at his bedside.

He was born in Mogadore in 1917 and was a life-long resident of the area. Joe retired in 1981 from General Tire and Rubber Company after 37 years of service. Preceded in death by his wife, Irene; and son, Joseph Jr.; He is survived by son, John (Laura); and daughter, Teryl Gilliland, both of Mogadore; daughter-in-law, Laura Tonsic of Lakewood, Ohio; nine grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and girlfriend, Ethel Christ.

Memorial services to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 24, at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), MOGADORE, Ohio 44260 with Rev. Kathleen Rankin officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the New Era Restaurant, 10 Massillon Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. The family suggests memorials to Mogadore EMS, 135 S. Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
