John P. Stewart

March 18, 1952 — June 30, 2024

North Canton

On June 30, 2024, John Stewart, 72, passed away peacefully at home in North Canton after a valiant fight against cancer.

John was born in Letchworth, England in 1952 and was a member of the Church of England. After completing his education in mechanical engineering and marketing, John had three jobs in his professional career. He was employed by Sigma Instruments and the Westinghouse Company in England and finally, as the U.S. liaison for Enotec, a German based company. Each of these gave John the opportunity to travel the globe giving him knowledge and experiences he felt no textbook could provide.

In 1998, John moved to the U.S. residing in Ohio. In 2002, he married his beloved wife, Peg. In doing so, he not only became husband, but also father and grandfather. John and Peg took great joy in making each other laugh, dancing together, fine dining and world travel. John also enjoyed playing soccer and watching British Premier Leagues. John prepared many gourmet meals for friends and family and enjoyed trying unique European recipes. He always had home improvement projects on the go with particular enjoyment for his “garden.” Music was something he loved listening to and sharing with sons and grandsons.

John was a man of strong principles and a generous heart. He touched the lives of those he met, offering many forms of assistance as well as sound advice. Social events allowed John to shine. With his bright blue eyes and British accent, he filled a room with class, humor, and a touch of silliness. His quick wit added smiles to everyone he met.

John was preceded in death by his parents John and Pauline (French) Stewart.

John is survived by his wife Margaret (Peg) Stewart, his mother-in-law, Lillian Lopez, stepsons Jonathan Schmidt of Marion, Iowa and Brian (Jenny Beckwith) Schmidt of Galena, Ohio, grandsons Nathan Schmidt and Evan Schmidt of Marion, Iowa and many friends and colleagues.

The love and support of family and friends through this cancer journey has been invaluable. A special thanks to Dr. Rafique and the staff at TriCounty Oncology, as well as the nurses from Crossroads Hospice Care.
