John P. Klainer, age 95, passed away on December 14, 2013.
Born in Germany, he lived in the Akron area most of his life. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 101st Armor Division, and retired from B.F. Goodrich after over 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and brothers, Paul and Frank, he is survived by his son, Robert J. (Norma) of Akron; grandchildren, Dave Swinehart of Alabama, Tammy (Russ) Fresh of Akron, Shelley (Jimmy) Kirk of Brimfield and Ami (Stuart) Leemaster of Green; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Josh, Nicholas, Paige, Zachery and Jake; sister, Teresa; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312, with Father Michael Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Firestone VFW Post 3383. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time Monday.
