John W. “Jack” Griebling, age 83, passed away September 4, 2013.
Born in Mansfield, he graduated from Garfield High School, and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron, where he majored in Political Science and belonged to R.O.T.C. After serving in the U.S. Army, Jack was employed as a travel agent at the Akron Auto Club, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Akron since 1963, where he sang in the choir and was in charge of audio taping. Jack also volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years. He was a classical music enthusiast, and was in charge of the ushers for the Tuesday Musical concerts.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Marian (nee Frutchey), second wife, Marty Friend; and many nieces and nephews; he is survived by son, David L.; step-daughter, Stacie Friend; and brother, Stephen T. (Mary Ann) Griebling.
Memorial service will be Saturday, September 14, 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market Street, Akron, OH 44308, with Rev. Duane Angel officiating. Private interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
