John W. Filaseta, 76, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2014.
Born in Akron, he lived the last 18 years in the City of Green. John graduated from Hower High School in Akron and was employed as a machinist and locksmith throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty, taking him to Germany. John loved marching in military parades but his lifelong passion was golfing with his “Buddies,” Dan “Fuzzy” Fausnaught, Jerry Worrell and Ken Dunlap. He shared the last 18 years with Sue Campbell, who was the “love of his life”. John and Sue shared the winters in Bradenton, Florida with their many friends. John learned to be an avid shuffleboard player and enjoyed helping new players every day. He was a determined fighter with his health issues for many years. Now he “rests” and is at “peace”.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rose Filaseta; brother, Leonard; sisters, Ann Sholley and Delores Annibal. He loved and cherished his lifelong friends, Ken and Barb Dunlap, and he loved and cherished their children, Debby (Ed) Hartman and Kenny Dunlap, as his own. John’s love of his family included sisters, Gloria Peercy and V. Jean Vair; sister-in-law, Tina Filaseta; brothers-in-law, Gail Sholley and Jack Annibal; nieces and nephews, Ralph, Tom, John and Renee Filaseta, Marie Stanley; Lisa Peercy, Vicky Wesig and Ray (Christen) Peercy; John (Kathy) Annibal; Diane Sulak, Sharon (Tim) Herceg, Karen (David) Jenkins, and Denise Meyer; Rose Miller, Donna Tucker and David (Jenny) Rossi; and Sue’s daughters, Cindi (Brian) Wachtel and Cheryl Campbell.
