John E. "Jack" Evans

March 29, 1931 — July 30, 2016

John E. “Jack” Evans, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2016. 

Born in Ontario, Canada to Floyd and Jean Evans, he lived in Akron, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as an executive for Goodyear Tire & Rubber after 45 years of service. Jack traveled extensively for his employment at Goodyear, living in many different locations until returning to the Akron area 35 years ago. He was a member of the Uniontown Lions Club, and Uniontown United Methodist Church where he was a member of the church choir and known as a great tenor. Jack began singing as a young boy and his love for singing lasted throughout his life. He also enjoyed attending services with Paula at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga; and is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John (Karen McDevitt) Evans and Mitchell (Deborah) Evans; his loving companion and caregiver, Paula Polatas; grandchildren, Michaelene (Max Jaksa) and MacKenzie; great-grandchildren, Millie and Mae; brother, Norman (Maggie) Lobell; and sisters, Jeannie (Jim) Wogaman and Hazel Sykes. 

Memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 West Streetsboro Street, Suite 201, Hudson, OH 44236.
