John C. Birk

John C. Birk, age 89, passed away peacefully at the Homestead in Hartville. Born in Canton, Ohio in 1934 to the late Louise and Calvin Birk. He lived in Uniontown most of his life. He graduated from Uniontown High School in 1951, electrical engineering in 1956 and the defense of systems management college in 1982.

He worked for RCA in New Jersey, AVCO in Cincinnati Ohio, National Cash Register in Dayton Ohio and Goodyear Aerospace/Loral in Akron Ohio. He retired from Loral in 1994 after working 38 years on U.S. Defense System's Projects. He served two years in the U.S.  in the Air as a Communications Officer.

John chaired and served on numerous church & community committees. Lifetime member of Grace United Church of Christ. He was a 2000 Lake High School wall of fame inductee for his volunteer work, community contributions, and professional accomplishments. He was a Uniontown Lions Club member for 60 years, which included Uniontown Festivals & Bus Trips. He was Treasurer of the Lake Township Historical Society and on the Lake Township Zoning board of appeals. He served and helped start the Uniontown Park in 1971 and served as President for many years.

The Family extends great appreciation to all the caretakers at the Homestead, Aultman Hospice and Ohio Living Hospice.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of 68 years, children Kim (Wayne) Miller, Pam (Lyn) Nisly and John Birk, 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends & family Sunday, November 5th, 3:30-4:30 with a Memorial Service following at 4:30. Everything will take place at Evermore Community Church, 1470 Smith Kramer, Hartville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Uniontown Community Park located at 3696 Apollo St NW, PO Box 365, Uniontown, Ohio.
