On April 5, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, Joanne wrote the final chapter of her life.
She was born in Akron on April 4, 1934 and was a life resident of the area. Joanne was employed over 25 years with Goodyear, working in the Public Relations Department of the airship operations. She was an avid reader and formed a writing club with her friends. Joanne enjoyed writing short stories about her life and was a reading tutor for the Akron Public Schools. She was extremely proud of being a great grandmother and lovingly crocheted blankets for many of them. Joanne’s greatest joy was being with her family.
Preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Mike Brown. She is survived by her son, Michael (Caryn); brother, Robert (Doris); grandchildren, Rachel, Jason, Jeremy, Sarah, Ryan, and Corinne. She was known as “G.G.” to her 16 great grandchildren. She leaves other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends 11-1 p.m. Wednesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.), where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Karen Hartley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Uniontown. The family suggests memorials to “Akron Reads” Community Tutoring Program, 70 N. Broadway, Akron, Ohio 44308.
