Joan A. Templeton (nee Benton)

Joan A. Templeton (nee Benton), born August 18, 1937, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 2, 2015 at 1:40 in the afternoon. 

“Aunt” Joan was quick witted, fun loving and a no nonsense kind of gal. Her love of cooking led to an amazing 49 years in food service. She started her career on Grand Island, New York. After moving to Akron, she was a manager for Balaun’s restaurants for 29 years. She finished her career as a supervisor with ten years of service at AGMC Petit Café. 

Joan was the loving daughter of Thomas S. Benton Jr. and Alice B. Benton; sister of Thomas S. Benton III and Nancy C. Meister, all of whom preceded her in death. Joan is survived by her loving sister and best friend, Christine Dempsey-Ward (Austin); nephews and nieces from New York, Wayne (Kathy) Benton, Alex Meister and Dawne Thomas; nephews of the Akron area, Gary (Missy), Daniel (Melissa) and Jeffery (Heather) Dempsey; great-nieces and –nephews, Katelynn, Kaeleigha, Jasmine, Gabrielle, Kaden, Jacob and Sabrina Dempsey; along with a host of friends. 

There will be no calling hours per her request. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at Staley Family Cemetery on Grand Island, New York. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Community Central Church, 919 Johnston Street, Akron, OH 44306. Please join us in celebration of Joan’s life.
