Joan Marie Kennedy

Joan Marie Kennedy, age 86, went home to be with our Lord on August 2, 2016. 

She was a 1948 Springfield High School graduate and an employee at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 34 years, working for 20 years in the Public Relations Department as a press release scheduler. In 1989 Miss Kennedy helped create what is now known as the Kennedy Plan to help establish and provide lifetime benefits for those who retired from Firestone in 1982 and before. Joan was a member of High Street Christian Church for over 50 years and at the time of her death was a member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church. Joan was probably one of the most loyal Akron University Basketball Zip fans you had ever met, as well as a Cleveland Indians fan. 

Preceded in death by mother and father, Stella and William Kennedy; sister, June Jenrette; brothers-in-law, Harvey Jenrette and Jerry Dick; and brother, William III. She is survived by sister, Margie Dick and her children, Patrick (Anna), Matthew (Angie) and Nathan (Naomi); June’s children, “Buddy” Harvey Jr., Dale (Carol) and Catherine; William’s children, Kate (Douglas), Brian (Mary) and Molly (Dan); four great-nieces and ten great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew. 

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, from 12 noon until service time. Memorials may be made to Wedgewood United Methodist Church, Summa Health at Home, or the Humane Society of Greater Akron.
