Jewell F. Darrow, 96, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 27, 1928, to the late Guyton and Katherine Thigpen. After her mother’s passing, she was raised by Elsie Thigpen, whom she loving called mother. She grew up in Akron, Ohio, attending Lincoln Primary and South High School before transferring to Hower Vocational School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Ralph Darrow. Their love story blossomed, and they married shortly after graduation.
Family was the heart of Jewell’s world. She lovingly cared for her parents and in-laws in their later years, a testament to her boundless compassion. Her greatest joy was raising her two children and witnessing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren thrive. Together, they shared cherished memories on countless family vacations and boating adventures, filling her life with laughter and love.
For 17 years, Jewell worked side by side with Ralph at Darrow Family Foods, embracing every role with dedication. She particularly enjoyed capturing special moments through photography and connecting with customers, always brightening their day with her warmth.
Jewell cherished her 15 years of involvement with the Girl Scouts of America, fostering community and mentorship, and her three years delivering meals through Meals on Wheels, bringing kindness to others. Ever a lifelong learner, Jewell proudly learned to drive at age 40, and mastered skills like bowling and how to run the lawn mower with enthusiasm.
Jewell’s life was defined by her unwavering love for family, her generous spirit, a robust collection of pig figurines, and the best banana bread in the world. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and countless memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.
