Jeffrey D. Hooper, age 70, passed away January 29, 2017 after a long illness.
Born in Akron, Jeff lived in the area most of his life and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was employed with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 38 years before retiring in 2004. Jeff enjoyed many things, including bowling, woodworking, cooking, gardening, photography, spending time outdoors and watching the Cleveland Indians. He was a member of the Ohio Lepidopterists, collecting moths and butterflies throughout the U.S. His collection currently resides in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Jeff was also a member of the American Rhododendron Society and created two new species of rhododendrons.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shelia; son, Michael (Melissa); daughter, Christine (Ben) Hymes; grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Benny, William and Anna; brother, David (Christine); sisters, Susan (Bruce) Hooper and Nancy Hooper; and his puppies, Harley, Mitchell and Magnolia; and many other relatives and friends.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorials to the Summit County Humane Society.
