After a five-year battle with carcinoid cancer, Jean Karen Ramsey's, born March 9th, 1949 to James and Barbara Black, spirit left this world on May 13th, 2024 into the loving arms of her Savior, leaving behind the failed body and a community who will truly miss her.
Jean had many passions in life. Her kids were her first passion. She fervently believed in home schooling when it was legally questionable, leading her hubbie to observe "I support you, but I will not go to jail over this". The kids especially remember gym time; running around the house while being chased by mom.
Another passion was walking. Oh, how Jean loved walking. It seems she couldn't get enough steps in. In her later years Jean was out the door by 6 am where she greeted fellow walkers. After receiving a smart watch, she took pride in tracking her steps. Her joy for walking extended to the Summit Country Metro Parks walking challenges. Every challenge for decades, she was on the trails earning numerous badges for her efforts. She especially enjoyed walking the nearby bogs and trails with her brother, kids or grandkids tagging along.
Friendship was another passion. She made many close friends at the North Canton Public Library from which she retired in 2020. Her friends extended to Connect Church where Jean sang in the choir and enjoyed another passion, reading, by joined book clubs and bible studies. Jean's passion for reading was shown in the hours spent reading, including nightly Bible studies.
A passion for serving others extended to food pantries, most recently at Ellet Community Church of God. She enjoyed interacting with all the volunteers, packaging food for people and delivering the cart of food to waiting people no matter the weather. She loved to see children's faces light up as she offered them stuffed animals provided by her daughter Karen.
Jean leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Franklin, children Jeremiah (Sarah), Michael, Franklin (Julianne) and Karen (Vanessa), grandsons Ernst and Ethan, brothers Thomas Black, James (Dorothy) Black, sister Barbara (Chris) Wagner and numerous cousins and other relatives.
