Gramma Jean has gone upstairs to be with Jesus at the age of 98 on February 12, 2015. With the style and grace with which she ended long Sunday visits with family and friends, or brought closure to a warm summer day spent on the swing, Gramma Jean stated, with her heart this time rather than her words, “I think I’ll go up now”. This time she didn’t need help with the stairs.
Jean Kathryn Halverson was a life-long resident of the Akron area. Jean and her siblings Betty and Bill grew up on Russell Ave. in Akron. Jean was a 1934 graduate of Akron’s South High School. Jean and her husband “Bud” eventually moved to the Ellet area, where they raised their children in their beautiful home on Paxton Ave. Jean, Bud and their family were long time members of Oak Hill Presbyterian church. She remained a faithful parishioner throughout her life.
As their children grew older and established their own families, Jean and Bud moved to Uniontown. Jean has independently stayed in her Uniontown home even after the passing of her beloved husband 23 years ago. Jean and her family are very thankful and grateful for the love and support that Bill and Claire Wertz, Lori and Bruce Frost, and other neighbors have provided. Gramma Jean has been the hostess for several large family reunions over the years. These gatherings were always scheduled around her birthday, arranged and coordinated by her loving daughter, Mary Colleen.
THE JEAN TEAM, an appropriate title for Jean’s extended family was always well represented at these fun and active events. The Jean Team’s current roster at 58, will continue to expand as families grow and share fond memories of their matriarch. The family extends a very sincere thank you to Dr. Khalil, and the Summa Hospice team and staff. They have been a wonderful blessing and support in helping Jean and our family prepare for this day.
Jean leaves her loving family, Hank (Sue) Antes, Bill (Nora) Antes, Tim (Martha) Halverson, Mary Colleen (Bill) Moriarty, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 16 at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family suggests memorial remembrances to a charity of your choice.
