Janet L. (Schaefer) Stapin

Janet L. (Schaefer) Stapin, age 47, of Rootstown, passed peacefully at Altercare of Hartville. She was surrounded by family. She died on May 15, 2014 after a courageous two-year battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Janet was a Registered Nurse, receiving her degree at the University of Akron in 1989. She worked first as an OB nurse at Robinson Memorial Hospital helping bring new lives into the world, then later at Summa Akron City Hospital, both in Family Practice and Internal Medicine. She touched many lives and hearts daily with her loving and thoughtful approach to nursing. Janet had a fun-loving approach to living, and lived life to the fullest. She loved fishing, gambling, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Preceded in death by her mother, Elsie; sister, Ruth; and brother, Don; Janet is survived by her beloved children, Rachel (15) and Ryan (12), and their father, Ken; her father, Paul; sisters, Paula (Greg) Chrobak, Pat (Gary) Jindra and Karen (Gary) Adelman; brothers, Ken (Nancy), Steve (Jeanne) and Jim (Tracy); brother-in-law, Dave Hicks; sister-in-law, Linda Schaefer; 14 nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and -nephews. Many friends will miss her, but especially her friend Janet, who supported her to the end. A special thanks to the Cleveland Clinic doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Ronald Sobecks and the entire oncology and transplant teams. Also a special thanks to Lynn Schaefer, Mary Wells, and Gary Jindra, whose generosity and support were greatly appreciated.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532) MOGADORE, Ohio 44260. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, Ohio 44260, with Father Thomas Acker, S.J. presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family suggests donations in her name to Talmer Bank and Trust, 4183 Tallmadge Road, Rootstown, OH 44272.
