James Thomas “Tom” French, 88 years old, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2021. Born in Akron, Ohio, he lived most of his adult life in the Akron area. Tom graduated from East High School and was employed by and retired from the City of Akron where he worked a portion of his career as a Surveyor’s Aide and the remainder of his tenue in the Water Department. Tom was a member of the World Wildlife Federation and was an avid supporter of wildlife conservation and the environment. His hobbies and interests remained varied throughout his entire life and consisted of playing with his three cats, game nights, hiking, biking, and playing cards with family and friends along with maintaining close relationships with neighbors and others he deeply cared about. Preceded in death by his parents, Wingert Lee and Martha Ellen French; brother, Ralph French; sister, Dolores Reed (French); brother-in-law, Richard Reed; and nephew, Mark French. Survived by his cats, Smokey, Tiger, and Piggy; Sister-in-law, Jean French; and nephews/nieces, Terry Irwin, Kevin (Kimberly) French, John (Anne) French, Jennifer (Larry) Visbisky, Rick (Paulette) Reed, Dolores (Tom) Boyea, Steve (Denise) Reed, and Craig (Sandy) Reed.
Calling hours will be held at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, Uniontown, OH 44685, on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 6 to 8 P.M. The funeral service will be held the following day at 11 A.M., Friday, July 2, 2021 at the same location. Interment will be immediately following funeral services at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Tom’s honor to the Humane Society.
