James T. "Jim" "J.K." King

October 27, 1948 — March 21, 2014

James T. King, age 65, went home to be with the Lord suddenly on March 21, 2014.

Born in Akron, he lived in the Akron and Hartville areas all of his life, and was a 1966 graduate of Buchtel High School. Jim was employed with Akron Public Schools for 21 years, retiring in 1996. He was an active and faithful member of Hartville Mennonite Church, led the Summer Worship Service at Clearwater Park for eight years, and volunteered on many Mennonite Disaster Service trips. Jim loved the outdoors, camping, gardening and trains. He coached softball for many years, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Jim was a devout Christian, loving, kind and compassionate husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by his mother, Glenna, Jim is survived by his wife of 35-3/4 years, Debbie (Morgan) King; daughters, Krisma (Chuck) Long, Kara (Dale) Thomas, Janette King, and Julie (Brent) Cherkala; grandchildren, Tommy, Matthew, Ryan, Violet and Bryson; father, Earl King; siblings, Pamela (Merle) Friedman, Lynda (Erik) Hedl, Donald (Joan) King, Susan (Bob) Schutte, Charles (Dona) King and Ken (Kathy) King; brother-in-law, Bob (Carol) Morgan; many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his church family.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartville Mennonite Church, 1470 Smith Kramer Street NE, Hartville, Ohio 44632, where funeral service will also be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Henry Shrock officiating. Burial will follow at Hartville Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the church.
