James Howard Harlan, age 66, went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2017 after a long illness.
Born in Akron, he grew up in Firestone Park, graduating from Garfield High School in 1969, and was a current resident of Green. Jim retired from the F.W. Albrecht Grocery Company after 49 years of service. Jim participated with the Acme bowling and golf leagues. He had the pleasure of coaching and watching his boys play soccer and basketball. Jim enjoyed golf, fishing, mowing his lawn and fun times with his friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Howard “Pete” and Dorothy Harlan; aunt and uncle, Ann and Bud Gladwin; and brother-in-law, Frank Steinmetz. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy; sons, Pete (Tiffany), Stephen and Daniel; grandson, Jack James; sisters, Lisa (Roger) Lively, Lyn Bell, Norma Steinmetz and Dottie Lee; nieces, nephews and many other family.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) A brief Funeral Service will follow the visitation Thursday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Akron General Foundation, 1 Akron General Avenue, Akron, OH 44307.
