Born in Punxsutawney, Pa., he lived in Akron, Ohio and attended Ellet High School. Jim served in the U.S. Navy and retired from General Motors – Terex Division. His hobbies and interests included Lionel Trains, working on cars, hunting, fixing anything, and time spent with his family. He enjoyed giving people a hard time. Among the assets in Jim’s diverse portfolio were countless pearls of wisdom, gold nuggets of fun, stock in family values, bonding with all, depositing laughter into others, and an undisclosed amount of life lessons. In the end, he left all the “does” and “bucks” for whomever ventures to find them.

Preceded in death by son, Jimmy; daughters, Kathleen and Cameo; son-in-law, Bob Swain; and parents, Grant and Marie McDivitt. Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; sons, Jon and Jeffrey; daughters, Kristine (Steve) Woodcock, Karen, Kerry Swain, Kolleen, Karla, and Katy (Rick) Dietz. He greatly enjoyed the various activities of his 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

As a celebration of Jim’s life, family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12 noon this Saturday at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 W. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44333. A private memorial service will follow. Cremation has taken place.
