James J. Dean, 87, passed away August 2, 2014.

Born May 20, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of James J. Dean and Louise (Kauffman) (Zaber) Dean. Jim served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He earned his Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Akron and retired from Goodyear Aerospace/Lockheed Martin after 37 years. Jim was assigned to Germany and several cities across the U.S. during those years. His intelligence and skill were highly regarded in the field of military defense. Those travels also provided many adventures for the family. He was an avid sportsman. Jim loved to golf, fish and bowl. Sailing was his most favorite sport; and his boat, the Panacea, provided family and friends with many a good sail. Jim was a member of New Life Episcopal Church and of the Firestone Park AARP Chapter 1715 where he served as program director.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Louise Dean; daughter-in-law, Robin Young; sisters, Hildegard Green, Marcelle Heid and Eleanor Zaber; brothers, Robert Dean and Dale E. Dean; and many wonderful in-laws and nephews. He leaves his son, William David Young; daughter, Diana (Robert) Evans; grandchildren, Amanda (Brock) Kocher; Bradley (Danielle) Young; great grandson, Dominic James Young; sister, Priscilla Mayton; his love, Helen Lowe; his angel, Ann Barber; and many dear nieces, nephews and special friends.

A memorial service will be held at New Life Episcopal Church, 13118 Church Ave., Uniontown, Ohio 44685, on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Beth Frank officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to New Life Episcopal Church.
