Irene Rohr, 85, went home to be with the Lord January 17, 2016.
She was born in Kingmont, WV and lived in the Akron area since 1944. Irene was a dedicated member of the Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church where she tirelessly helped in the kitchen for special church dinners. She was an excellent cook and was always the first one to provide a meal for neighbors and friends. Irene retired from Pepsico and also was a volunteer at Akron City Hospital for many years. She was known for the special treats that she passed out to the neighborhood children. Irene was happy living at Pleasant Pointe Assisted Living in Barberton where she had many friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Marietta Channell; husbands, Austin Rohr and Don Barker. She is survived by brother, Melvin (Betty) Channell; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Pointe and Tridia Hospice for the loving care of Irene.
Friends and family will be received from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday at Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church, 1430 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44305 with funeral services starting at 1 p.m. Rev. Reford Nash will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to her church, Pleasant Pointe Assisted Living or Tridia Hospice.
