Herman "Jake" Steele

Herman “Jake” Steele, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2023.

Born in Akron, Jake moved to West Virginia with his family and attended Point Pleasant and Parkersburg High Schools, before moving back to Akron. He retired from Fairlawn Supply after 26 years of service. Jake loved tending to his flowers and watching John Wayne movies. He and his wife Pat also enjoyed traveling the continental United States and collecting postcards from as many places as they could.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel Steele; siblings, Mary, Herbert, and Emogene; and great-grandson, Henry. He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Pat; son, Jeff (Anna) Steele; daughter, Debbie (Craig) Tompkins; grandchildren, Christy (Joe) Derhammer, Jared (Tiffany) Steele, and Richard Steele; great-grandchildren, Abram, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, and Ella; brothers, Hubert (Janet), and Howard (Mary Lou); and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Altercare Hartville for their care, and to Jake’s friend Art and his family.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon), followed by the funeral service at 12 (noon) at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Memorials in Jake’s honor may be made to Absolute Hospice, 7171 Keck Park Cir. NW, North Canton, OH 44720.
