Herman F. Huth, Jr.
MOGADORE – On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Herman F. Huth, Jr., 76, passed away at his home in Newcomerstown, Ohio.
Born on November 6, 1940, Herman was the third of seven children born to Herman F. Huth, Sr. and Lorrayne (Muncy) Huth.
A 1959 graduate of Mogadore High School, he excelled in athletics and was a 4-year letterman in four sports. Herman was inducted into Mogadore’s Athletic Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the O.H. Sommers award for volunteerism. He proudly helped to build the current Field House at Mogadore High School.
Herman continued his athletic career and education at the University of Akron where he lettered in football, wrestling and track. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Akron University and his Master’s Degree from Kent State University. He taught Industrial Technology at Ellet High School in Akron and also enjoyed coaching football and wrestling.
After retiring from Akron Public Schools, Herman worked for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority as a cost estimator and project manager. In later years, he became an avid golfer and hunter. He enjoyed hunting trips with his son and grandson to Newfoundland, Africa, Florida and the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. Herman was a member of the Wesley Community Chapel in Newcomerstown and the former Mogadore Christian Church in Mogadore.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 55 years, Nancy; his son and daughter-in-law, Herman III and Maggie Huth; his grandchildren, Anthony Huth, Alyssa Huth, Kevin Miller and Amber Miller. Also surviving are his brothers, Duke (Judy) Huth and Tim Huth; and sisters, Donna Hollosy and Ann (Larry) Stouffer. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Herman will be remembered as an excellent athlete and coach, a talented builder, and a man who loved his family. We will miss you, but believe by faith that we will see you again.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 3 to 4 p.m. with service beginning at 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Mogadore Church (formerly the Mogadore Christian Church), 106 S. Cleveland Ave., Mogadore, OH 44260. Pastor Jay Rock of the Wesley Community Chapel will be officiating.
