Helen Anna Stevens

Our dear, sweet Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Helen Anna (Wilkie) Stevens, age 99, went home to be with the Lord May 28, 2012.

Born in Akron, Helen was a life member of The Chapel and taught Sunday School (three year olds) for over 60 years, retiring when she turned 90. She also led Pioneer Girls on Wednesday evenings, participated in The Chapel prayer chain, and visited the sick and home bound every week. Helen was a member of the Women’s Bible Study group, Inheritors Sunday School class, and the Women’s Auxiliary at the Haven of Rest Mission. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in 1974; she is survived by sons, Robert (Bonnie) Stevens of Keller, Tex., William (Jarona) Stevens of St. Louis, Mo.; and daughter and son-in-law, LaVonne Stevens and Richard Wendelken of Akron.  She leaves six grandchildren, Jeffrey Stevens of Chicago, Ill., Kimberly Stevens of Southlake, Texas, Christopher Jones of Delray Beach, Fla., Jason (Julie) Jones of Cuyahoga Falls, Leslie Stevens of Los Angeles, Calif., Todd Stevens of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandson, Robert Jeffrey Stevens of Southlake, Texas.  She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends that were so kind to visit her on a regular basis.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to the staff at The Village at St. Edward that provided such wonderful and loving care to our precious Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma since June of 2011.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 4 p.m., in the Memorial Chapel at The Chapel on Fir Hill, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH 44304 with Pastor Mike Castelli officiating.  Private interment at Hillside Memorial Park.  Friends may call at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron 44312 from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Chapel at the address above, or Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E.
