Helen L. Poor

Helen Poor, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 13, 2024. She was born in Akron on December 22, 1925 to Clifford and Alice Alhand. She lived most of her life in Springfield Township and graduated from Springfield High School in 1943. It was there that she met the love of her life Ernie Poor to whom she was married for 65 lively and wonderous years until his death in 2010. Following high school she was employed by General Tire until she transitioned to her true calling as a full time mom in 1949. She was a member of the Springfield Township Women's Club and faithfully attended Lakemore United Methodist Church throughout her adult life. Helen and Ernie reveled in their active social and sporting lives not only locally but at their winter residence in Stuart, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie and daughter Tammy (Chuck) Billington. She is survived by her sons Ernie (Curtis), John (Suzie), Rod (Lisa), daughter Kristy (Jerry) Ursetti, and her sister Annie Padrutt. Helen's memory will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren Chaz, Kyle, Josh, Vince, Tony, Kara, Angie, Hallie, Jenna and fourteen great grandchildren. She and Ernie have left to their descendants a legacy of love, strong family values, and fun. Helen will be remembered by all who knew her as the matriarch (and "little General") of the Poor clan.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Helen's devoted caretakers Rone', Joanne, Taylor, Uncle Dennis, Nurse Jackie and the team at Summa Hospice, and the staff at Pebble Creek Healthcare.

Calling hours will be held at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home located at 547 Canton Rd. Akron on Thursday November 21 from 4-7pm. Funeral services will take place Friday November 22 at Hopkins Lawver at 11am followed by internment at Hillside Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 1025 Canton Rd. Akron at noon.
