Harry B. Wagers, age 93, passed away on November 23, 2015.
Born in Irvine, Ky., he served in the U.S. Army Airborne during World War II in the 511th Paratroop Infantry, 11th Airborne Division and received the Purple Heart award. Harry retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber after 42 years of service as a Stationary Steam Engineer. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry; sisters, Frances Columbus and Wally Smith; and half-brother, Bill. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty; sons, Dale (Cathy) and Dennis (Elaine); daughter, Beverly (Rick) Swindell; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and half-sisters, Sue Bunch, Betty Brinegar and Joyce Martin.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron/Ellet, Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Sandra Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487.
