Harry Vose Smith, 93, passed away March 6, 2015.
Harry was born in Kenova, West Virginia and preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Carol. Harry will be deeply missed by daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Dennis) Gotsch of Harvard, Ill., Barbara (Philippe) Esteve of Charleston, SC, Kathleen (Charles) Lang of Mogadore, Pamela (Shawn) Werner of Mogadore; and brother, Willard Smith of Rochester, NY. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jason Lang, Andrew Gotsch, Nicole (Esteve) Todd, Stacey (Lang) Suihkonen, Samantha Gotsch, Daniel Lang, Nicole (Marquis) Bienvenu; and five great-grandchildren.
Harry served in the Navy as a Special Artificer (Optical) on the USS Prometheus from October 1942 to January 1946, spending time in Trinidad during World War II. He retired from Davey Tree Expert Company in 1984 with 38 years of service. He spent most of his Davey career as a tree surgeon and the last 10 years as a production manager in the Buffalo, NY office. He continued his love of horticulture by doing shrub and tree trimming for his neighbors in the Venice, Fla. retirement community in which they resided before moving to Ohio in 2003. Harry was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Uniontown. The family would like to thank the staff at Bath Creek Estates and Harry's church family for their care and compassion while assisting him on his final journey home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Advent Lutheran Church, 1516 Edison Street NW, Uniontown, Ohio, with Pastor Robert Cheyney Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church.
