Harold C. Messner Jr., age 92, passed away on October 19, 2016.
Born in Akron, he was a lifetime area resident and attended East High School where he met the love of his life, Ethel. Mr. Messner was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He retired from the City of Akron Division of Motor Vehicles where he was employed as a Certified Harley Davidson mechanic. Harold was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, Wayfarer Masonic Lodge #789 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton and Eastern Star Lodge #756 O.E.S. He was Past President of Portage Lakes AARP and Past Commander of DAV Chapter 50 in Alliance.
Harold is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ethel (Rege); daughter, Diane (Mike) Dunphy; grandchildren, Brian Dunphy, Katie (Ryan) Long and Bill (Jaclyn) Dunphy; and great-grandchildren, Brendan and Ella Dunphy, Jonathan and Michael Long.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) where a Masonic service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 1516 Edison Street NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 with Pastor Bob Cheyney Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Advent Lutheran Church Building Fund.
