Gwendolyn M. Jones, age 100, went home to be with her Lord on January 17, 2024.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on May 14, 1923, she was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. She graduated from Garfield High School in Akron. She worked for Ohio Bell Telephone and Ohio Edison. Gwen was a life member of Miller Ave. United Church of Christ (The Front Porch Fellowship) where she played the piano for Sunday School for more than 35 years. She also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir from the time she was sixteen. She met the love of her life, Robert Jones, at Miller Ave. Church when Bob's mother told Bob he needed to get to know the Neal girls. They were married for nearly 74 years. Mom enjoyed traveling through all fifty states, Canada and Europe. She enjoyed her family and friends and the many friends she made at the Homestead Assisted Living in Hartville, Ohio, where she lived the past six years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman J. and Martha Evans Neal; her sisters, Dorothy Hall and Evelyn Scott; and her brother, Herbert Neal. She is survived by her sister, Dolores Capple. She is also survived by her children, Larry (Carmella) Jones, Gary Jones, Debbie (Larry) White; grandchildren, Melissa (Charles) Schaefer, Mark (Georgie Mazaris) White, Jason (Shannon) White, and Michael (Randi Nicole) Jones; honorary son, Hank Weller; honorary grandchildren, Robin and Judi Jenkins-Stecyk and Ken (Karolina) Caston and nine great grandchildren.
