Gretchen P. Pepper, 94 of Akron, passed away on July 13, 2016 at Concordia Care Center.
Gretchen was born in Alliance, Ohio on May 19, 1922. She attended St. Luke’s nursing school and Duquesne University and graduated with a BSN degree. Gretchen served in World War II as an Army nurse. She worked for the Summit County Health Department and retired from there with over 20 years of service. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she served on various committees. Gretchen enjoyed playing cards and sewing, and was a caregiver to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Bill; and sister, Hertha Sheatsley. Gretchen is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Jim) McCans; grandchildren, Amanda (Zach) Fox, Katie (Andrew) Guran and Matthew McCans; as well as great-grandchildren, Aaron and Norah Fox and Lucas Guran who brought a smile to her face every time they visited.
Her celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312 with Pastor Linda L. Slutz officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
