Gregory A. Powers

Gregory A. Powers, age 80, passed away on January 21, 2016, surrounded by his family. 

Born in Akron, he was a lifelong resident of the area and was employed as a Construction Manager for the Lawson Milk Company. Greg was a faithful and devoted member of Suffield United Church of Christ, where he served in many capacities over the years. He was a member of Wayfarer Masonic Lodge 789 F&AM (formerly Amos Englebeck Lodge) for over 60 years. Greg was a passionate Buckeye fan, and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Hazel; and brother, Bill, he is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen; sons, Greg Jr. (Karen) and John; daughter, Dana (Jim) Berton; grandchildren, Sarah, Rebekuh (Ryan), Gregory III (Ann), David, Amy (Bob), Danny (Robin) and Pat (Kim); sisters, Christina and Linnea (Frank); sister-in-law, Bernadine; the Stayer family; special friends, Jerry, Penny and Dale. Greg also leaves his Suffield Church family, other relatives and friends. 

The Powers family would like to thank Drs. Lonsdorf and Petrus, as well as Hospice of Summa, especially Annie and Pastor Mike for their loving care during Greg’s illness. 

Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron/Ellet, Ohio 44312, where a Masonic service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at Suffield United Church of Christ, 1115 State Route 43, Mogadore, Ohio 44260, with Pastor Gary Friend officiating. Burial will follow at Ellet Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Suffield United Church of Christ.
