George L. Long

George L. Long Sr., age 69, passed away on October 6, 2017. George was born on May 21, 1948 in Canton, Ohio and lived most of his life in the Akron area. His love of motorcycles and of his country and family defined his life. George was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. George gave 30+ years of service with UCI/Owens Corning in Tallmadge before retiring in 2010. He also served as a police officer in Columbiana County since 1996. George was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Obert Long. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Long; children, Melissa and George Jr., both of Akron; step-children, Jerry Smith (Gina) of Las Vegas, Theresa Smith and Karen Smith, both of Green; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. All that knew George will miss the philosophical, political conversations that he enjoyed engaging in. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, 3 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) with Pastor Kenneth Chappy officiating.
