George E. "Eddie" Ayers

George E. “Eddie” Ayers, 85, peacefully went home to be with the Lord November 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 16, 1928 in Akron to John S. and Bertha Ludwig Ayers and was a 1946 graduate of Greensburg High School. George played football at Ohio University, which started a family tradition, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After college graduation from Ohio University in 1949, George served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His employment included teaching and coaching at Greensburg High School, where he served on the school board.

George built homes with his father, sold real estate, was an agent with C.L. Boughner Insurance Company and was the owner and president of the George Ayers Insurance Agency. He was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church and Greensburg Lions Club. George received his 50-year member pin with Wayfarer Lodge #789 F.&A.M.; was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Valley of Akron; the Tadmor Shrine, and the Royal Order of Jesters #80. He was a lifetime member of Turkeyfoot Sportsman Club and a member of the American Legion. George was a respected businessman in the community where he touched many lives. He was always willing to help a friend.

Preceded in death by parents; and son, Edward S. Ayers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna; daughters, Christine (Dennis) Thompson of Tallmadge and Karen (Paul Milinkovich) Ayers; grandchildren, Meghan (Pat) Robinette, Dennis (Michelle) Thompson, Gregory (Lia Evans) Thompson, Nathan (Alison Lyons) Wladyczak and Nicholas Wladyczak; great grandchildren, Grace, Andrew and Jiselle. The family would like to thank the staff at Crossroads Hospice and St. Luke Lutheran Community in Portage Lakes.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. from the Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, North Canton, Ohio 44720 with Pastor Abby Auman and Dr. John M. Schluep officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street, (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Avenue) Uniontown, Ohio 44685 where Wayfarer Lodge #789 will conduct Masonic Services at 6 p.m. and R.O.J. #80 at 8:13 p.m. Additional visitation from 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until service time. Burial will follow at East Liberty Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Firestone VFW Post #3383. The family suggests memorials to the Tadmor Shrine, 3000 Krebs Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319, or Greensburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 155, Green, Ohio 44232.
