Gary Noble Shoemaker, age 74, passed away peacefully on June 20th, 2016 with his family at his side.
Gary was born in Columbus, Ohio, and was a Green resident the past 18 years. Born September 17th, 1941, he was the son of Noble and Inez Shoemaker, and younger brother to Marlene and Betty. Living in the Akron area for most of his life, he graduated from Field High School, later receiving an A.S. in Civil/Construction Engineering from ICS in 1974. He was Vice President and an owner of Keller Rigging and Construction, Inc. in Tallmadge for over 30 years. Gary formerly served on the board of directors of The Salvation Army in Akron. After one month of retirement, he decided to join his son at S. Gary Shoemaker Rigging and Transport in Green in 2014, and was instrumental to the company’s success. He was also a key advisor for Treno Services, LLC in Green. Gary was known for his work ethic, and was recognized nationally for his contributions and achievements to the rigging industry in the U.S. in 2012. Gary enjoyed reading, exercise, and his rose-breasted cockatoo, Rocky.
Preceded in death by his loving parents, Gary is survived by his sons, Steven G. Shoemaker (Kathy), Scott L. Shoemaker; daughter, Linda E. Searcy; and grandchildren, Shelby, Zachary, Lauren, Jacob, Joshua, and Jordan.
Friends and family will be received Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Glenn E. Rogers Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
