Freda M. Linger (Thomas), age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2015.
She was born in Jellico, Tennessee to Denny and Lena Thomas on July 9, 1923. At a young age, the family relocated to northeast Ohio where she spent the rest of her life. Throughout her life, Freda’s faith was the bedrock which carried her in the good times and the bad, allowing the Lord to shine through her actions both inside and outside the home.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing and cooking, her cherry pie being a family favorite. Freda owned and operated an answering service in Akron, Ohio. She took care of everyone in the family, giving of herself without consideration of the cost. Her wisdom and guidance will carry on through the generations she touched every day of her life.
Freda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Linger; parents; sisters, Josephine Dormany and Emma Metcalf; brothers, Clifford Thomas and James Thomas; daughter, Reba Slocum; and son, Shawn Connell. She is survived by her sister, Marlene Hill (Warren); son-in-law, Fred Slocum; grandchildren, Robert Duncan, Todd Connell, David Duncan, Scott Slocum, and Marie Peak (Charles); her five great-grandchildren who were the light of her life; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), MOGADORE, Ohio 44260, where funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Tallmadge Cemetery.
