Frances M. Rumbaugh

June 13, 1919 — June 14, 2012

Our mom, Frances M. Rumbaugh (nee Swartzlander), loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away early June 14, 2012 at The Greenview Inn, her home since January 2008. She had just observed her 93rd birthday.

Mom was born June 13, 1919 in Akron, and lived her entire life in the Akron area. Her life's work was making a home for her family.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Merle; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Rumbaugh; son-in-law, Ronald Marks; and grandson, Ronald Marks II. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Lena Swartzlander; her twin brothers, Robert and Roland Swartzlander; and her sister, Maxine Platt.

Mom did things out of love, never imagining that what she did would become unforgettable memories in our hearts. Mom will be greatly missed by her son, Attorney Richard Lee Rumbaugh of Carrollton, Ohio; daughter, Norma Jean Marks of Akron; and daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Denny Gearheart of Akron. She was "Grandma Rumbaugh" to seven grandchildren: James Marks, Marc (Vicki) Rumbaugh, Jill (Bob) Filkins, Greg (fiancee Melissa) GEarheart, Tim (Michelle) Gearheart and Jeff (Jennifer) Gearheart. Frances was "Great-grandma Rumbaugh" to seven. Mom was blessed by the daughter-like kidness of Alice Montgomery. who never missed sending holiday cards to remind Mom she was special.

Mom was a member of First United Methodist Church of Akron for over 50 years, and also a member of the Fraternal order of Police Auxilliary. Mom enjoyed making family dinners until she "conveniently" forgot how to cook. She loved playing bingo, going to craft shows, shopping, watching Lawrence Welk and going for a "Sunday ride and dine."

A special "thank you" to Mom's loving and dedicated caregivers at The Greenview Inn and Crossroads Hospice and also to Dr. Mark Smith for making Mom's final years a smooth transition to her eternal life.
