Together Again
Fern F. Koplin (Cross) went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2024.
Born on March 6, 1928 she was a lifelong resident of Akron. Fern graduated from Cleveland City Hospital School of Nursing (now Cleveland Metro), Western Reserve University, and the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. She retired in 1990 after 21 years from the Akron Health Department and was also employed with the Summit County Health Department, City Hospital Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Adjunct Faculty College of Nursing, and The University of Akron for 12 years from 1978 to 1990. Fern was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau (Nursing Honor Society) and The American Nurses Association. She was First Vice President of The Ohio Nurses Association and President of The Summit-Portage District Nurses Association. She also held membership with the Akron Woman’s City Club, Falls Chapter O.E.S. #245, and First United Methodist Church of Akron. She enjoyed interpreting in local historical homes such as the Perkins and Brown Houses, Hower House, and Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens where she belonged to the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild.
Fern had a love for traveling and enjoying life with her husband, family and friends.Fern was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, E. Duane Koplin; brother, James W. Allen; and sister-in-law, Charlotte. She is survived by her nephews, James H. (Judy) Allen and Richard W. (Patricia) Allen; niece, Terry L. Ayers (William); grand nieces and nephews, Kimberly Ayers, Melissa (Craig) Herndon, Elizabeth (Aaron) Hykes, Christopher (Dawn) Allen, and Nathan Allen; as well as many great great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 6th at 10 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312.
