Evelyn Belle Strasser, age 98, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2022.
Evelyn was a trailblazer. Moving from the tiny borough of Berlin, Pa. after graduating from high school, to the big city of Akron, Oh. She was one of a group of women known as the “Rosey the Riveters,” working at Goodyear on Navy Corsair fighters throughout WWII.
She met and married the love of her life at Land of Dance and enjoyed 61 years of marriage while raising a wonderful family. She worked at Co-op and Parker Meats for over 25 years full-time in an era when that was rare. Her energy and fun loving personality kept her involved in the community. Evelyn volunteered at Children’s Hospital for 35 years and proudly wore her 5,000 hour service pin. She was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church for 53 years, enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake house, dancing, playing cards, and bowling. She regularly attended Zip basketball games and was a Cavs and Indians fan. What made Evelyn most proud was attending her grandchildren’s milestones and sporting events, even traveling to Arizona and California to do so. She loved board games and never passed up an opportunity to play. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her influence in the lives of her family is immeasurable and she will be forever remembered and missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John A. Strasser, and son, John R. Strasser. Survived by children, Joyce A. Skeggs, Sandra K. (Mark) Vandall, and James E. (Deb) Strasser; grandchildren, Ericka, Ann, Jeff, John, Aaron, Jason, Mary, Jessica, Cemile, Remzi, Mason, Steven, Shannon, and Stacey; and ten great-grandchildren.
