Evelyn "Joyce" George Kennedy

MOGADORE -- Evelyn “Joyce” George Kennedy (nee Evans), age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 20, 2018. Born in Akron, she was a lifetime area resident. After retiring from General Tire, Joyce began a second career of babysitting local children. She especially enjoyed her time taking care of all the children whom she deeply loved. Joyce was a member of Mogadore Baptist Church. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and counted cross stitch. Joyce began taking piano lessons late in life and never minded being the oldest student at the recitals! She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family. Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Evans; husband, Olan S. “Bud” George; sister, Mary Jo Dunlap; and husband, Franklin Kennedy. She is survived by her children, Sam (Birdie) George, Jon (Cheryl) Barrett, Debbie (Dale) Baldwin, Joel (Becky) Barrett, Gary (Beverly) Barrett, and Staci (Todd) Bates; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Joyce’s family would like to thank the Visiting Angels, Hospice of Summa and her church family for all their love and care. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rob Seymour officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore, where burial with military honors will also be held for Joyce’s late husband, Olan S. George.
